FEASTING AND MERRIMENT IN FRENCH HISTORY.
Since Antiquity, the French have developed a special talent for lavish feasting and entertainment : Gargantuan banquets of the Middle-Ages accompanied by music and poetry of Troubadours and Minstrels, the refined cuisine and fine wines of the Renaissance, not to mention Belle Epoque Gai Paris which prompted Stefan Zweig’s famous quote ” Nowhere has it been possible to experience the naive and yet wise carelessness of life more fortunate than in Paris“.
