French Language & Cultural Center

The dedicated team of volunteers at the Alliance Française de Los Angeles helps ensure the efficiency and quality of the many programs and services offered by the organization.

Volunteers at the Alliance work in the library, at cultural events, and in the administrative offices. Projects always vary, but volunteers may be asked to carry out such tasks as: reshelving books, setting up and breaking down events, serving food and beverages, directing visitors in the library and guests at events, updating databases, prepping development documents, assisting with fundraising events, and more.

Volunteering with the Alliance is an opportunity to engage yourself in LA’s Francophone community with others who share the same interests and passions as you. Volunteers not only provide valuable to support to the Alliance staff, but also serve as ambassadors for the Alliance to the general public.

BLOG AMBASSADOR

AFDELA Blog Ambassadors are invited to write articles about Francophone language, culture, and AFDELA events for the AFDELA blog (blog.francela.org). Bloggers may write in French or English and may have the opportunity to meet and speak with visiting artists to create their articles.

The blog ambassadors will write under their own names and are required to produce new articles on a regular basis for at least six months.

How to apply?

Contact [email protected] with your resume, an introduction of yourself, an article submission (see guidelines below) to apply. No cover letter necessary.

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and writers will be contacted if there is an opening.

The blog ambassadors will write under their own names and are required to produce new articles on a regular basis for at least six months.

Guidelines

You are strongly encouraged to read through past articles of the blog prior to sending your submission in order to get a sense of the style of the writing and topics already covered.

Your Submission

Should NOT be longer than two pages

SHOULD deal with a French or Francophone language or cultural topic of your choice. Some topics, like macarons and “living a French lifestyle,” are seen repeatedly. Try to find something original and unique. Articles discussing politics or study abroad will not be considered.

Should NOT be written in the first person; keep in mind that this blog promotes an organization, not an individual. Although you may, and certainly should, use your experiences as inspiration, generic recaps of your first time traveling to France are (most likely) not topics that will be very engaging to our readers and/or have already been covered at length.

SHOULD include 2-3 photos to be included within the text as well as a thumbnail image. Additional pictures, images, or links are also welcome to be inserted into the text.

We would like these posts to be fun, engaging, and educational for the readers, so have fun with it yourself!
