Book: Profession du Père by Sorj Chalandon
Plot: Narrator Emile goes back to his distorted childhood, the France of De Gaulle and the strings of rebellion in Algeria in 1961. As a young boy, Emile craved his father’s approval believing his lies and his fantasies but also fearing his unpredictable violence. He doesn’t not even know his father’s profession : pastor, pilot, secret agent, judo expert and singer to name a few. As Emile grows older, does he really believe that his father is serious in involving him in a plot to assassinate de Gaulle?
