History is a written story in which men and women strive to make known times past. Over the centuries, French writers combined erudition, imagination and elegance to write a narrative with style.

Alexandre Dumas’ swashbuckling novels, Victor Hugo’s epics or Jules Vernes’ prophecies make us travel through time. Madame de Sévigné’s exquisite letters painted an extraordinarily vivid picture of 17th century in France, whereas Marguerite Yourcenar (the very first Académicienne) conquered the problem of time with her fictionalized historical novels.
