Our History and Mission

Welcome to the vibrant community of the Alliance Française of Los Angeles, where our passion for French language and Francophone cultures brings people together from all walks of life. Our journey traces back to the founding of the Alliance Française de Paris in 1883, and today, we stand as a proud member of a global network with over 900 chapters spanning 130 countries.

Alliance Française de Los Angeles (AFdeLA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is independently run and does not receive any subsidies from the government.

What makes our Alliance unique is not just our rich history, but the incredible programs we offer, led by our dedicated team of teachers and supported by our passionate leadership. Whether you’re a seasoned Francophile or just starting your linguistic adventure, our diverse range of classes, events, and cultural activities cater to all levels and interests.

As a member of the Federation of Alliances Françaises USA, we’re part of a nationwide family of over 100 chapters, each contributing to the vibrant tapestry of French language and culture in the United States and Puerto Rico.
