While 23 year old night porter Romain Esnard dreams about writing a great novel his father becomes a pensioner. Romain’s father Michel doesn’t like his new life and neither does his wife Nathalie enjoy having him around moping all the time. When Romain’s 85 year old grandmother Madeleine runs away from a retirement home, family friction skyrockets.
Eventually Romain receives a postcard from Normandy. He borrows his father’s car and joins Madeleine and together, they discover her past and the school she once attended. Thanks to an understanding young teacher, Madeleine is allowed to get to know the pupils who are now as old as she was left.
