Les parapluies de Cherbourg by Jacques Demy
Les parapluies de Cherbourg is a 1964 French Film by Jacques Demy. It stars Catherine Deneuve and Nino Castelnuevo, and the film has won such prominent awards as the Prix Louis-Delluc and the Palme d’Or at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival. Set in the time of the French-Algerian War, the film follows a complicated love triangle between a boutique owner, a mechanic, and a home caretaker, all of whom live an average French lifestyle but with complicated relations and histories.
This film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 37th Academy Awards in 1965, and was nominated for four more academy awards in 1966. It also won the critics’s prize for Best Film by the French Syndicate of Film Critics in 1965.
